More info
Founded in 1913 by a group of teachers in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, Boston Children’s Museum began a “hands–on” tradition long before that phrase became commonplace. Collections were vital to the early Museum and led the way forward to today’s Museum, where hands-on experiences form the basis of the Museum’s approach to playful exploration. Today, Boston Children’s Museum remains one of the few children’s museums in the United States that maintains a collection. We invite you to get to know the history of one of the world’s most influential children’s museums through our diverse collections, institutional archives, photographs, and stories. Boston Children’s Museum has been collecting since 1912 when the first gift was recorded.
